WHERE IT ALL BEGAN…
In 1978, two Dutch brothers, John and Carl van Meeteren, began exploring their family’s past out of curiosity. Little did they know, their journey would uncover stories stretching back to the 15th century, revealing a noble lineage.
As they delved deeper, they discovered that in 1662 and 1663, part of the ‘van Meteren’ family moved to the United States. Their family name quickly changed into Van Meter, Vanmeter, Van Metre, Van Mater, Van Matre and Van Marter. Today, many of our relatives call America home, while others still reside in the Netherlands, where our family’s story began.
This website is a tribute to our family, created to celebrate our shared heritage. We want to invite others to join us in exploring our history. We hope that by sharing our journey, we can connect with long-lost relatives and learn more about our collective past together.
